Every flogger, dragon tail, paddle and thumper in our collection is handcrafted to order, built from a real understanding of how different materials translate into sensation. Whether you are chasing a sharp sting or a deep, resonant thud, the leather or material you choose matters just as much as the shape of the toy itself. This guide walks through every option so you can pick the right impact toy for your style of play.
What Counts as an Impact Toy?
Our impact toy collection covers a wide range of shapes and sensations, including:
- Floggers, the classic multi-tailed whip-style toy
- Dragon Tails, a single or split-tail design built for a sharper, more focused strike
- Jacks and Thumpers, our thuddy bats designed purely for deep, blunt impact
- Paddles, flat and rigid for a controlled, concentrated sting
- Slappers, folded leather designed for a sharp, cracking pop
Each of these can be built in different materials and weights, which is where the real customization happens.
Our Leather Options, Explained
Buckskin (3-4oz)
Buckskin is our lightest and softest leather, usually sourced from deer, elk or moose hide. It is an excellent choice for a gentle warm-up flogger at smaller sizes, and even at larger sizes it delivers a soft, forgiving thud rather than a sting. If you are new to impact play, buckskin is one of the most beginner-friendly leathers we offer.
Cow (3-4oz)
Cowhide is our most versatile leather and comes in the widest range of colors. Softness and thickness vary depending on the cut, but it generally lands right in the middle of the sting-to-thud spectrum making it a great all-purpose choice. Cowhide is also available braided into a Cat-o-9 style used in both our round cat flogger and our squid cat flogger for a more textured, multi-strand feel.
Pig Suede (3-4oz)
Similar in weight to cowhide, pig suede has a little less flexibility in the leather itself, but the sueded top grain gives it a distinctly soft touch. It is a good option if you want the structure of a firmer leather with a gentler surface feel.
Bull (6-8oz)
Bullhide is a heavy, thuddy leather, almost twice as thick as our cowhide. It is fantastic for deep thud, but it can also carry a stingy bite when cut into thinner falls, such as quarter-inch strips, because the density gives it more snap on contact. It is also available braided into Cat-o-9 style falls in our flat cat and squid cat floggers, and it comes in our second largest range of colors.
Bison (8-9oz)
Bison is our heaviest and thickest leather, softer and squishier in hand than bullhide despite the added weight. This is the leather to choose if heavy, resonant thud is exactly what you are after. Color options are more limited with bison, simply because it is a harder hide to source in variety.
Non-Leather Options
Rope Falls
Our rope floggers are built from our own 6mm (quarter-inch) MFP rope, a washable synthetic material that delivers a distinctive ropey thump. The ends can be knotted for a punchier, more concentrated thud, or left fluffed out for a softer, broader sensation. Rope is also a great vegan-friendly alternative for anyone avoiding animal hide.
Rubber and Silicone
This category covers the widest range of sensation of anything we offer, and the feel really does depend on the specific listing. Generally, options include bike tube rubber, silicone falls, and playmat rubber, with playmat rubber standing out as the thuddiest of the three. These materials are also fully vegan and tend to be easy to clean.

Sting vs Thud: Choosing Based on Sensation
If you are new to shopping for impact toys, the easiest way to narrow things down is by sensation:
Want more sting? Lighter, denser materials cut into thinner falls, like bullhide cut thin or a firmer cowhide, will give you a sharper bite.
Want more thud? Heavier, softer materials like bison or a larger buckskin flogger deliver that deep, resonant thump without a sharp edge.
Want something in between? Standard cowhide is built exactly for this, offering a natural blend of both sensations.
Want a vegan option? Rope and rubber/silicone falls, especially playmat rubber for thud lovers, give you the same range of sensation without animal hide.
Handcrafted to Order
All of our leather and rubber impact toys are handmade to order, and most custom pieces take 5-7 weeks to build. Large orders and full kits carry extended processing times, so please check our shipping policy for full details. We do occasionally keep a small number of prebuilt items in stock, though selection is limited, so it is worth checking current availability if you need something sooner.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a flogger and a dragon tail?
A flogger has multiple falls for a broader spread of impact, while a dragon tail is a single or split-tail design built for a more focused, precise strike.
Which leather is best for a first flogger?
Buckskin or standard cowhide are the most beginner-friendly choices, offering a gentler introduction to impact play before moving into heavier leathers like bull or bison.
Are your impact toys vegan-friendly?
Yes. Our rope falls, made from 6mm MFP rope, and our rubber and silicone options, including bike tube and playmat rubber, are all vegan alternatives to our leather lines.
How long does it take to receive a custom flogger?
Most custom impact toys take 5-7 weeks to build since everything is handmade to order. Large orders and full kits may take longer.
What is a Cat-o-9 style flogger?
It refers to falls that are braided rather than cut as single strips, giving a more textured, multi-strand strike. We offer this style in cowhide through our round cat and squid cat floggers, and in bullhide through our flat cat and squid cat floggers.
What are Jacks and Thumpers used for?
These are our thuddy bats, built specifically for blunt, concentrated impact rather than the spread sensation of a flogger.
